Freight Services

Pallet2Ship® provides freight forwarding by road, air and sea to over 220 countries and territories. Our platform lets you compare services, see prices instantly, and book shipments in minutes — for both UK domestic and international freight, exports and imports.

We work with established carrier networks including DHL, FedEx, UPS, Palletways, TPN, Pall-Ex, DSV, Kuehne+Nagel, and Hellmann. From a single pallet to full truckloads, Pallet2Ship gives you one platform to manage all your freight.

What is freight forwarding?

Freight forwarding is the coordination of moving goods from origin to destination using the most suitable transport method and carrier. In practice, it means comparing options across road, air and sea, selecting the right balance of cost and speed, and ensuring your shipment is correctly documented before dispatch.

Pallet2Ship operates as a freight forwarding platform, giving you access to multiple carrier networks through a single quote and booking system. Our system also generates customs documentation during the booking process, so international shipments are customs-ready from the start.

What Freight Services Does Pallet2Ship Offer?

Pallet2Ship provides freight services covering domestic and international shipping by road, air and sea, plus specialist services for larger, heavier or non-standard freight.

Road Freight (UK and Europe)

Road freight is the most widely used option for pallet delivery across the UK and Europe. It provides a reliable and cost-effective solution for most types of freight.

Services include economy pallet delivery using network consolidation, premium and express services for faster transit, LTL (Less Than Truckload) for shipments sharing trailer space, FTL (Full Truckload) for dedicated vehicle movements, and same-day and next-day options for urgent UK freight.

Road freight is suitable for standard pallets, multi-pallet consignments, oversized pallets, and heavier goods requiring planned handling across UK and European routes. See our Road Freight page and FTL & LTL page for details.

Air Freight (Worldwide)

Air freight is the fastest option for international shipping when delivery speed is critical.

Services include express air freight for urgent shipments and economy air freight for cost-sensitive deliveries. Standard air freight handles pallets up to 160 cm in height (DHL). For key destinations including the USA, Japan and Australia, FedEx accepts pallets up to 178 cm — enter your exact dimensions in the quote tool and the system will show which carriers and services are available for your shipment.

Best suited for time-critical, high-value, or long-distance international shipments where road or sea transit times are not practical. See our Air Freight page for details.

Sea Freight (Worldwide)

Sea freight is the most cost-effective option for large or heavy international shipments.

LCL (Less than Container Load) lets you share container space and pay only for the volume you use. FCL (Full Container Load) gives you a dedicated 20ft, 40ft, or 40ft high cube container.

Delivery options include door-to-door, door-to-port, port-to-door, and port-to-port. Transit times and routing vary depending on port schedules and shipping lines. Sea freight is ideal for bulk goods, machinery, and routes where cost per kilogram matters more than speed. See our Sea Freight page and FCL & LCL page for details.

Oversized Pallets

For goods exceeding standard pallet dimensions, Pallet2Ship handles oversized pallets up to 600 x 240 cm by road, air and sea. As long as the goods are properly packed and suitable access is available, we arrange the right vehicles and handling. See our Oversized Pallets page.

Parcel Services

For smaller consignments that don't require palletisation, Pallet2Ship also offers parcel courier services to UK and international destinations. See our Parcel Services page.

Amazon FBA Delivery

Pallet2Ship supports deliveries to Amazon fulfilment centres across the UK. Amazon FBA shipments have specific labelling and booking requirements. See our Amazon FBA page.

Who Uses Freight Services?

Manufacturers and engineering firms, wholesalers and distributors, e-commerce businesses, automotive suppliers, construction companies, food producers, and importers of all sizes. Whether you ship once a month or multiple times a week, Pallet2Ship gives you access to the same carrier networks and competitive rates used by the UK's largest freight operations.

When Should You Use Each Freight Service?

Choosing the right transport method depends on the size, weight, destination and urgency of your shipment.
Road freight is best for UK and European deliveries. Typical transit: next day to 7 working days depending on route and service level.
Air freight is best for urgent or high-value international shipments. Typical transit: 1-7 working days depending on destination.
Sea freight is best for heavy, bulky or non-urgent international cargo. Typical transit: 2-8 weeks depending on the port pair.
Matching the service to the shipment ensures better pricing, smoother handling and fewer delays.

What Affects Freight Shipping Costs?

Freight pricing depends on collection and delivery locations, pallet size, weight and total shipment dimensions, transport mode (road, air or sea), service type (economy or express), handling requirements for heavy or oversized goods, and customs requirements for international shipments.

Accurate weight and dimension data are essential. Incorrect information is one of the most common causes of delays, re-rating and additional charges.

Insurance

Insurance can be added during booking for goods valued between £100 and £50,000. For higher values, contact our team for tailored cover. Insurance covers loss or damage during transit when goods are correctly packed and declared. Without insurance, only limited carrier liability applies — usually calculated per kilogram and significantly lower than the value of the goods. See our Insurance page.

Customs & Documentation Support

All international shipments require customs documentation. When you book through Pallet2Ship, our system generates the Commercial Invoice during the booking process. You will need commodity codes (HS codes) for each product, an EORI number for commercial shipments, and the relevant Incoterms agreed with your trading partner.
For guidance, see our Export & Import guide, Commodity Codes guide, EORI guide, and Incoterms guide in the Logistics 101- Knowledge Hub.

Frequently asked questions

about Freight Services

Quotes & Pricing

Freight costs depend on route, pallet size, weight, dimensions, transport mode, and service type. Road freight is priced per pallet or per load, air freight by chargeable weight (actual or volumetric, whichever is higher), and sea freight per container (FCL) or per CBM (LCL). Use the Instant Quote & Book system for accurate, live pricing.
Sea freight is usually the cheapest option for international shipments, particularly for heavy or bulky goods. Road freight offers a balance of cost and speed for UK and European deliveries. Air freight is the most expensive but delivers the fastest transit times. The right choice depends on your shipment’s size, weight, destination, and urgency.
Yes, provided your shipment details are accurate. Additional charges may apply if dimensions, weight, or cargo type are under-declared, or if customs or access issues arise due to incorrect information.
The most common causes are incorrect dimensions or weight at booking, declaring a pallet as stackable when it is non-stackable, restricted access at collection or delivery, waiting time beyond the allocated window, and customs delays caused by missing or incorrect documentation.
No. Customs duties, import VAT, and taxes are separate from the freight charge and are the responsibility of the importer unless a DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) service is specifically agreed.
Yes — you can select a standard pallet size from the quote tool to get an estimate. However, accurate dimensions and weight must be confirmed before booking. If the actual shipment differs from the quoted dimensions, the price may be adjusted and the carrier may re-rate the consignment.

Choosing the Right Freight Service

Consider four factors: destination, urgency, size/weight, and budget. Road freight is best for UK and European deliveries where cost and reliability matter. Air freight is best for urgent, high-value, or time-sensitive international shipments. Sea freight is best for heavy, bulky, or non-urgent international cargo where cost per kilogram is the priority.
In some cases, yes. International shipments may combine road and sea (for example, road collection to the port then ocean freight) or road and air. The quote system will show the available options for your route.
Road freight within the UK typically takes next day to 3 working days. European road freight typically takes 2–7 working days. Air freight typically takes 1–7 working days depending on destination. Sea freight typically takes 2–8 weeks depending on the port pair and routing.

Road Freight

Road freight services include economy pallet delivery through shared pallet networks (your pallet is collected, moved to a regional hub, consolidated with other freight heading in the same direction, and delivered to the destination depot for final delivery), premium and express services for faster transit, LTL (Less Than Truckload) for shipments sharing trailer space, FTL (Full Truckload) for dedicated vehicle movements, and same-day collection for urgent UK freight. See our Road Freight page and FTL & LTL page for full details.
LTL means your pallets share trailer space with other shipments — you pay for the space you use. FTL means a dedicated vehicle is used exclusively for your freight — you have the full trailer. LTL is more cost-effective for smaller volumes, while FTL is better for large shipments, urgent freight, or goods that need to travel without other cargo. The threshold is approximately 20 standard pallets.
UK domestic carriers include Palletways, Pallex, and TPN. For European road freight, carriers include DSV, DB Schenker, Kuehne+Nagel, Hellmann, DHL, FedEx, and UPS. The quote system selects the best available service based on your route, dimensions, and weight.
Yes, via dedicated vehicles for UK shipments. Same-day collection and delivery is subject to vehicle availability and route feasibility. Contact our team or use the quote tool for same-day options.

Air Freight

Air freight services include express air freight for the fastest possible transit and economy air freight for cost-sensitive international deliveries. Air freight is available to virtually every international destination through DHL and FedEx. See our Air Freight page for full details.
Standard air freight through DHL handles pallets up to 160 cm in height. FedEx accepts pallets up to 178 cm on key destinations including the USA, Japan, and Australia. Enter your exact dimensions in the quote tool and the system will show which carriers and services are available for your shipment.
Air freight is priced by chargeable weight — the higher of actual weight or volumetric weight. Volumetric weight is calculated from the shipment’s dimensions. This means lightweight but large shipments may cost more than their actual weight suggests.
Air freight is the right choice when delivery speed is critical, when goods are high-value and need fast, secure transit, when the destination is too far for practical road freight and too urgent for sea freight, or when the shipment is relatively small and the cost premium over sea freight is justified by the time saving.

Sea Freight

Sea freight services include LCL (Less than Container Load) where your cargo shares container space with other shipments, and FCL (Full Container Load) where you have a dedicated 20ft, 40ft, or 40ft high cube container. Delivery options include door-to-door, door-to-port, port-to-door, and port-to-port. Transit times and routing vary depending on port schedules and shipping lines. See our Sea Freight page and FCL & LCL page for full details.
FCL typically becomes more economical when your shipment exceeds approximately 13–15 CBM. FCL also offers fewer handling points, faster transit, and more control over the shipment. For smaller volumes, LCL is usually cheaper because you only pay for the space your cargo occupies. The quote we provide will always show whether FCL or LCL is more economical for your specific route.
Door-to-door includes collection from your premises, ocean freight, customs coordination, and final delivery to the consignee. Port-to-port means you arrange delivery to the origin port and the consignee collects from the destination port. Door-to-port and port-to-door options are also available. The choice affects both cost and convenience.
Yes. Most international destinations require ISPM-15-compliant heat-treated wood packaging to prevent the spread of plant pests. Non-compliant pallets may be rejected at destination, causing delays and additional costs. This applies to both FCL and LCL shipments. See our ISPM-15 guide.

Packing & Requirements

All goods must be securely palletised, shrink-wrapped, and where necessary strapped to prevent movement during transit. Use heavy-duty cardboard boxes, keep heavy items at the bottom, and ensure the load is stable and within the pallet footprint. For sea freight, packing must be more robust because of longer transit and additional handling, particularly for LCL shipments. See our Pallet Packing Guide.
Standard UK pallets (120 × 100 cm), Euro pallets (120 × 80 cm), and 120 × 120 cm pallets are all accepted. Oversized pallets up to 600 × 240 cm can be shipped using appropriate services and vehicles. See our Oversized Pallets page.
Network services typically accept pallets up to 1,200 kg. Pallets above 750 kg may require forklift handling at collection and delivery. For heavier shipments, FTL or dedicated vehicle services can accommodate higher weights.
Yes, for lighter pallets on UK road freight services. Tail-lift vehicles can load and unload without a forklift or loading bay. This must be requested at booking.

Customs & Documentation

Yes. You need a Commercial Invoice with commodity codes (HS codes), an EORI number for commercial shipments, and the relevant Incoterms. When you book through Pallet2Ship, our system generates the Commercial Invoice during the booking process. See our Export & Import guide.
An EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) number identifies your business for customs. It is required for all commercial UK exports and imports. You can apply free through HMRC. See our EORI guide.
Commodity codes (HS codes) classify what the goods are for customs purposes. They determine the duty rate, VAT, and any restrictions or licensing requirements. The correct code must appear on the Commercial Invoice for each product. See our Commodity Codes guide.
Most export shipments operate under DAP (Delivered at Place) — the seller arranges delivery but the receiver handles import customs, duties, and taxes. Most imports operate under EXW (Ex Works) — the sender makes goods available for collection and the receiver handles everything from that point. DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) is available on some services but must be confirmed before booking. See our Incoterms guide.

What Can Be Shipped

Pallet2Ship handles a wide range of freight including commercial goods, machinery, automotive parts, construction materials, electronics, industrial equipment, ambient food products, and general merchandise. Hazardous goods can be shipped on some services with proper documentation and carrier approval.
No. Pallet2Ship does not handle alcohol shipments on any service.
Yes. Personal effects require a detailed inventory list, correct customs documentation, and professional packing — every item individually wrapped and protected. For air and road freight, personal effects are handled via DHL only. For sea freight, FCL and LCL services can be used.
New furniture in original manufacturer packaging can be shipped as standard freight. Used furniture is treated as personal effects and must be professionally packed by a removal company — each item individually protected, corners secured, and the full consignment palletised to a professional standard.
Yes. Engines must be fully drained of all fluids, professionally cleaned, and securely bolted or strapped to the pallet. Collection for engines must usually be from a business address. Machinery must be properly secured and declared accurately.
Some dangerous goods can be shipped with correct documentation, compliant packaging, and carrier approval. Not all carriers accept all classes of dangerous goods, and some destinations have restrictions. See our Dangerous Goods page.

Insurance & Tracking

Yes. Insurance can be added during booking for goods valued between £100 and £50,000. For higher values, contact our team for tailored cover.
Insurance covers loss or damage during transit when goods are correctly packed and declared accurately. If goods are damaged because of inadequate packing, the insurer may reject the claim.
Only limited carrier liability applies. This is usually calculated per kilogram under international transport conventions and is almost always significantly lower than the actual value of the goods.
Yes. Tracking is available for most services. If tracking links are available, they are provided in your booking confirmation email. Our operations team can also provide updates.

Booking & Practical Considerations

Enter your collection and delivery details in the Instant Quote & Book system, input accurate pallet dimensions and weight, compare available services, and book online. No account is required. For FCL, FTL, or complex shipments, our team provides tailored quotes.
For standard UK pallet delivery, 24 hours is usually sufficient. For European road freight, 2–3 days. For air freight, 2–3 days. For sea freight, 5–10 days depending on the route and whether FCL or LCL. During peak seasons, earlier booking is recommended.
Yes. Pallet2Ship arranges freight to over 220 countries and territories worldwide — everywhere that DHL, FedEx, and UPS can deliver, plus additional sea freight and road freight routes.
Yes. We handle both UK exports and imports across all transport modes — road, air, and sea.
ncorrect dimensions or weight at booking, missing or incorrect customs documentation, non-compliant packing (particularly ISPM-15 for international wood packaging), restricted access at collection or delivery, and failure to declare non-stackable pallets.
Yes. Someone must be present at both collection and delivery to hand over or receive the freight. Collections and deliveries are kerbside-to-kerbside — the pallet must be on a hard, flat surface accessible to the vehicle.
Changes may be possible before collection, but they can cause rebooking fees, delays, or price adjustments. Always confirm cargo details, dimensions, and weight before booking.
Manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, automotive suppliers, e-commerce businesses, construction companies, food producers, engineering firms, and importers of all sizes. Whether you ship once a month or multiple times a week, the platform is designed for all business volumes.
Our UK-based operations team is available Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:30, by phone, email, or live chat — before and after booking.
