What You Can Send on a Pallet to Mexico
Typical UK exports include:
- Machinery and engineering parts
- Non-perishable packaged foods (ambient, shelf-stable) – subject to Mexican sanitary approvals
- Apparel and textiles with correct Spanish labelling (NOM-50 compliant)
- Consumer electronics and telecom equipment (NOM certification may be required – see below)
- Automotive parts and accessories
- Bulk e-commerce stock and wholesale goods
If your shipment includes regulated or restricted goods such as pharmaceuticals, lithium batteries, or telecom equipment, please confirm eligibility with our team before booking.
Not accepted: perishable foods, fresh produce, certain lithium batteries without proper documentation, firearms, counterfeit goods, and items requiring permits you don’t hold. Always check our Prohibited & Restricted Items list before booking.
Customs & Paperwork (UK → Mexico)
All UK–Mexico shipments require full customs documentation. Here’s what you’ll need:
- A Commercial Invoice with accurate descriptions, realistic values, and HS codes per line item (our booking system standardises this and provides a short video tutorial).
- UK EORI number (exporter).
- Mexican RFC (Registro Federal de Contribuyentes) – the Mexican tax ID required for all imports. For B2C shipments, CURP (personal tax ID) may also be accepted. Your Mexican buyer/recipient must provide this number before booking; shipments without valid RFC/CURP will be held at customs and may incur storage fees.
- Incoterms: most UK exporters use DAP (receiver pays duties/taxes). We also support DDP solutions for specific commodities — contact us for details.
- NOM (Norma Oficial Mexicana) Certification: required for electronics, electrical goods, telecommunications equipment, and certain food/beverage products before they can enter Mexico. NOM certificates are issued only to Mexican importers/distributors or manufacturers in countries with Mexican free-trade agreements (including the UK under the UK–Mexico TCA). If your goods require NOM, your Mexican consignee must hold the certificate or you must work with a NOM-certified importer of record.
- Permits and certifications: some products need additional sanitary or telecom approvals; we can advise on these requirements.
Customs broker requirement: Mexican law mandates a licensed customs broker (agente aduanal) for all commercial imports. Your freight service includes coordination with Mexican customs brokers, but you’re responsible for providing accurate documentation. Residential or personal shipments via courier services may use simplified clearance for low-value goods (under USD $1,000).
USMCA trade rules: we reference USMCA (formerly NAFTA) trade rules where applicable to reduce potential duties on qualifying goods originating from the UK.
Tip: precise item descriptions (brand, model, material, use) and correct HS codes help prevent customs queries and storage fees.
UK to Mexico Transit Options and Coverage
Transit times vary depending on the service:
- Economy air consolidation: typically 6–10 working days door-to-door.

All services include full tracking from UK collection to final delivery in Mexico.

Remote areas are handled through partner networks, and additional transit or last-mile fees may apply.
How to Get the Cheapest Pallet Delivery to Mexico (Without Cutting Corners)
- Choose the right mode: sea freight is most economical for non-urgent shipments; air freight for time-sensitive goods.
- Pick the right speed: economy consolidation suits flexible timelines; express air freight is best for time-critical goods.
- Consolidate shipments: sending multiple pallets together reduces per-pallet cost.
- Use accurate measurements: precise weight and dimensions prevent re-ratings and delays.
- Optimise pallet space: keep within the pallet footprint — overhang increases costs and risk of damage.
- One HS code per line item: clear, detailed invoices speed clearance and reduce customs checks.
- Avoid customs delays: accurate RFC, complete invoices, and correct HS codes prevent costly storage fees.
Packing Standards for Long-Haul Freight
Mexico is a long-distance route, so professional packing is vital:
- Use ISPM-15 heat-treated pallets (mandatory for Mexico).
- Place heavier items at the base and lighter ones on top.
- Add edge protectors, cross-strapping, and at least three full wrap layers from base to top.
- Label clearly with delivery address and contact number; add “Do Not Stack” cones if needed.
- Avoid loose or overhanging items; secure everything within the pallet footprint.
- For fragile or high-value cargo, consider purchasing optional insurance during checkout.
Forklift requirements: if your pallet weighs over 750 kg or exceeds 200 cm in height, forklifts will be required at both collection and delivery points. Standard pallets under these limits can be handled with tail-lifts and pump trucks.

Important Information About Sea Freight Costs
P2S offers highly competitive rates for door-to-port and port-to-port pallet delivery. However, please note that our advertised prices do not include import duty, VAT or GST, port handling fees, quarantine inspection charges, or any other destination-specific costs charged by local authorities or port operators.
These fees are set by the Australian or UK governments and port handling companies, and are completely outside our control. They must be paid locally by the receiver upon arrival of the goods.
Door-to-door delivery by sea is only available for business-to-business (B2B) shipments in Australia, and pricing for this service is available on request.

Case Study – Air Freight Pallet from the UK to Mexico City
Quick Summary
A UK-based customer booked an economy air freight service to send a pallet of electronic components to a manufacturing facility in Mexico City. Before collection, two issues were identified: the customer used incorrect commodity (HS) codes on the commercial invoice and declared the pallet as stackable despite it not meeting stackable packing requirements. Both were corrected in time, avoiding airline surcharges, customs delays, and additional costs.
The Situation
A UK manufacturer urgently needed to send a pallet of electronic modules to a business address in Mexico City. Due to time constraints and the relatively light weight of the shipment, the customer selected economy air freight using our online booking system, choosing the next available flight. The shipment consisted of one pallet measuring 120 × 100 cm and weighing approximately 280 kg. The customer completed the commercial invoice themselves, but entered generic HS codes, which did not accurately reflect the goods being shipped. They also declared the pallet as stackable, even though the images they later provided showed that it lacked a flat, rigid surface, had some uneven carton heights and minor overhang — meaning it did not meet stackable standards. These errors could have resulted in customs delays in Mexico, additional duties, or the airline placing the cargo on hold and applying non-stackable surcharges.
The Challenge
- Wrong commodity codes would trigger customs queries or duty mismatches.
- Declaring the pallet as stackable without proper crating or a flat load surface could lead to airline penalties or refusal to load.
- The pallet needed to depart on the originally booked flight for the customer to meet their delivery deadline.
What the Customer Did Right
- Chose the correct freight method (air freight) for time-sensitive cargo.
- Booked online and supplied full collection and delivery details.
- Sent pallet photos when requested, allowing issues to be flagged before collection.
How Pallet2Ship Resolved It
- Our team reviewed the commercial invoice and immediately spotted the commodity code issue. We advised the customer to update the HS code to match the electronic components being shipped — this ensured smoother export and import clearance.
- After receiving pallet images, we identified that the load could not be classed as stackable. For a pallet to be considered stackable, it must be crated or have a firm, level top surface capable of supporting another pallet — this one did not.
- We contacted the customer straight away and advised them to repack the pallet using a rigid top board and secure wrapping, and to update the booking to non-stackable to avoid surcharges.
- Once repacked and approved, the pallet was collected as planned and uplifted on the next available flight.
Results
- No airline surcharge for incorrect stackability.
- No customs delay caused by incorrect HS codes.
- Shipment departed on schedule and reached Mexico City handling terminal as planned.
- Customer avoided additional handling fees and potential 2–3 day delays.
What to Do vs What Not to Do
Do This
- Use correct HS codes and confirm with your supplier or tariff database
- Only declare a pallet as stackable if it is crated or has a flat, rigid top
- Send pallet photos in advance for approval
- Choose air freight only for goods within airline size and weight limits
Avoid This
- Don’t use generic or guessed commodity codes
- Don’t declare stackable if boxes are uneven or unsecured
- Don’t wait until collection to fix packing issues
- Don’t send oversized or very heavy pallets via air freight
