DHL Express goods restrictions starting from 1st of January 2021

Starting from 1st of January 2021, every EU country is updating their goods restrictions policy. Items of food and animal-or plant-based products will become subject to inspection by EU member states, and  DHL Express network has announced that these type of goods cannot be handled anymore through their services, from 1 January 2021, to and from the EU. These restrictions are currently applied to goods arriving in the destination country from outside the EU.

The suspension is being extended to all types of food and plants, to and from the EU, from 1 January 2021 until further notice. However, the suspension doesn't cover items that may be derived from plant and animal materials, such as cosmetics and leather made items or sports equipment.

Please click here to check if restrictions will be applied to your category of goods by the destination country. Please note that there are also restrictions on what a country will accept as a document shipment, so please check both the document and goods information.

Please be advised that medical products carried as WMX shipments containing human tissues/blood are not affected and can continue with the correct paperwork.

Also, please note that EU country-specific restrictions will not be applied to goods moving between Northern Ireland and the EU, based on current customs law, however, should this customs position change, DHL may need to revisit this position.
