Export, Import & Cross Trade

Pallet2Ship arranges pallet delivery to and from every country in Europe by road, air, and sea. Whether you are exporting goods from the UK to Europe, importing into the UK from European suppliers, or arranging cross-trade movements between European countries, our platform lets you compare services, see prices instantly, and book your shipment in minutes.

European road freight is the core of our service — with multiple departures per week through established carrier networks, transit times typically range from 2 to 7 working days depending on the route. For urgent shipments, express and air freight services are also available. For heavier or larger consignments, FTL (Full Truckload), LTL (Less Than Truckload), and sea freight options cover all European routes.

Since Brexit, all UK-EU shipments require customs declarations. Once your booking is confirmed, you can generate the Commercial Invoice directly from your account, where you will be guided through all the required information.

ISPM-15 Note

All wooden pallets used for UK-EU shipments should comply with ISPM-15 regulations (heat-treated and stamped). While enforcement within the EU varies, compliance is strongly recommended for all European shipments since Brexit. Non-compliant wood packaging may be rejected at destination, causing delays and additional costs. Plastic pallets do not require ISPM-15 treatment. See our ISPM-15 guide.

UK-EU Customs Requirements

Since Brexit, customs declarations are required for all shipments between the UK and the EU. The table below shows which documents are needed for each type of movement

Both the UK sender and the EU receiver need valid EORI numbers for commercial shipments. UK businesses apply through HMRC. EU businesses register with their national customs authority. If your EU customer is a private individual receiving personal effects, they do not need an EORI. See our EORI guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

about our European shipping services

Quotes & Pricing

Pricing depends on the route, pallet size, weight, dimensions, service type (economy or express), and transport mode (road, air, or sea). European road freight is typically the most cost-effective option for standard pallets. Use the Instant Quote & Book system at the top of this page for accurate, live pricing.
For most European destinations, yes. Road freight through shared pallet networks offers the best balance of cost and speed. However, for very heavy or high-volume shipments, FTL (Full Truckload) pricing may be more economical than sending multiple pallets through the network. For urgent shipments, air freight is faster but more expensive. See our FTL & LTL page.
Yes, provided your shipment details are accurate. Additional charges may apply if dimensions, weight, or cargo type are under-declared, or if customs issues arise from incorrect documentation.
No. Customs duties and import VAT are separate from the freight charge. Under DAP (Delivered at Place), which is the standard Incoterm for most Pallet2Ship export services, the receiver in Europe pays import duties and VAT on delivery. See our Incoterms guide.
The most common causes are incorrect dimensions or weight at booking, declaring a pallet as stackable when it is non-stackable, restricted access at collection or delivery, waiting time, and customs delays caused by missing or incorrect EORI numbers, commodity codes, or Commercial Invoice details.

Transit Times & Routing

Typical road freight transit times to Europe range from 2 to 7 working days depending on the destination country, service level, and whether economy or premium is selected. Western Europe (France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium) is typically faster than Southern, Eastern, or Scandinavian destinations.
Air freight to European destinations typically takes 1–3 working days, making it the fastest option for urgent shipments.
Sea freight is available for some European routes, particularly for larger or heavier consignments where cost matters more than speed. However, road freight is the primary mode for European pallet delivery due to shorter transit times and simpler logistics.
Express and premium road freight services offer the fastest transit times to nearby European destinations. Same-day delivery to Europe is not standard, but next-day services are available to some Western European countries on premium services. Contact our team for urgent requirements.

Services & Transport Modes

Services include economy road freight through shared pallet networks, premium and express road freight for faster transit, LTL (Less Than Truckload) for part-load shipments, FTL (Full Truckload) for dedicated vehicle movements, air freight for urgent international deliveries, and sea freight for heavier or bulk consignments. See our Road Freight, Air Freight, and Sea Freight pages.
Yes. FTL services provide a dedicated vehicle exclusively for your freight, suitable for large shipments or cargo that needs to travel without other goods. The threshold is approximately 20 standard pallets. See our FTL & LTL page.
European carriers include DHL, Palletways, DSV, DB Schenker, Kuehne+Nagel, Hellmann, FedEx, and UPS. The quote system selects the best available service based on your route, dimensions, and weight.

Customs & Documentation

Yes. Since Brexit, all shipments between the UK and the EU require customs declarations. You need a Commercial Invoice with commodity codes (HS codes), EORI numbers for both the UK sender and the EU receiver (for commercial shipments), and the relevant Incoterms. Our booking system generates the Commercial Invoice during the booking process. See our Export & Import guide.
For commercial shipments, yes — both the UK sender and the EU receiver need valid EORI numbers. UK businesses apply through HMRC. EU businesses register with their national customs authority. If the EU receiver is a private individual receiving personal effects, they do not need an EORI. See our EORI guide.
Commodity codes (HS codes) classify what the goods are for customs. They determine the duty rate, VAT, and any restrictions. Every product on the Commercial Invoice must have a commodity code. See our Commodity Codes guide.
The system generates the Commercial Invoice during the booking process and prompts for EORI numbers and commodity codes. This ensures your shipment is customs-ready before dispatch. For complex customs requirements, our team can provide guidance.
Yes. Under the Windsor Framework, shipments between Great Britain and Northern Ireland require customs declarations. Shipments between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland generally do not. The requirements table on this page shows which documents are needed for each movement type. See our XI EORI guide for Northern Ireland-specific EORI requirements.

Packing & Pallet Requirements

Standard UK pallets (120 × 100 cm), Euro pallets (120 × 80 cm), and 120 × 120 cm pallets are all accepted. Oversized pallets up to 600 × 240 cm can be shipped using appropriate services and vehicles. See our Oversized Pallets page.
Goods must be securely palletised, shrink-wrapped, and where necessary strapped. Use heavy-duty cardboard boxes, keep heavy items at the bottom, and ensure the load is stable and within the pallet footprint. For road freight across Europe, packing must withstand multiple handling points over several days of transit. See our Pallet Packing Guide.
Since Brexit, ISPM-15 compliance is strongly recommended for all UK–EU shipments. Enforcement within the EU varies by country, but non-compliant wood packaging may be rejected at destination, causing delays and additional costs. Heat-treated pallets carry the ISPM-15 stamp. Plastic pallets do not require treatment. See our ISPM-15 guide.
Network services typically accept pallets up to 1,200 kg. Pallets above 750 kg may require forklift handling at collection and delivery. For heavier consignments, FTL or dedicated vehicle services can accommodate higher weights.

Prohibited & Restricted Items

No. Pallet2Ship does not handle alcohol shipments on any service.
Yes. Personal effects require a detailed inventory list, correct customs documentation, and professional packing. For air and road freight, personal effects are handled via DHL only. Every item must be individually wrapped and protected. Customer-packed personal effects are not accepted.
New furniture in original manufacturer packaging can be shipped as standard freight. Used furniture is treated as personal effects and must be professionally packed by a removal company — each item individually protected, corners secured, and the full consignment palletised to a professional standard. Customer-packed used furniture is not accepted.
Yes. Engines must be fully drained of all fluids, professionally cleaned, and securely bolted or strapped to the pallet. Collection for engines must usually be from a business address. Machinery must be properly secured and declared accurately.
Some hazardous goods can be shipped with correct documentation, compliant packaging, and carrier approval. Not all carriers accept all classes of dangerous goods. See our Dangerous Goods page.

Insurance & Protection

Yes. Insurance can be added during booking for goods valued between £100 and £50,000. For higher values, contact our team for tailored cover.
Insurance covers loss or damage during transit when goods are correctly packed and declared accurately.
Only limited carrier liability applies under CMR (Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road) or equivalent international transport conventions. This is calculated per kilogram and is almost always significantly lower than the actual value of the goods.

Collection & Delivery

Yes. Door-to-door delivery is available to every European country listed on this page. The freight is collected from your premises in the UK and delivered to the consignee’s address in Europe, or vice versa for imports.
Yes. Someone must be present at both ends. Collections and deliveries are kerbside-to-kerbside — the pallet must be on a hard, flat surface accessible to the vehicle.
Yes. Pallet2Ship handles both UK exports to Europe and imports from Europe into the UK. The same customs documentation requirements apply in both directions.

Booking & Changes

Enter your collection and delivery details in the Instant Quote & Book system at the top of this page, input accurate pallet dimensions and weight, compare available services, and book online. No account, no contract, and no minimum volume required.
Changes may be possible before collection, but they can cause rebooking fees, delays, or price adjustments. Always confirm cargo details, dimensions, and weight before booking.
For standard road freight, 2–3 working days before required collection is usually sufficient. For express or premium services, 24–48 hours. For FTL or air freight, contact our team as early as possible.

Practical Considerations

Pallet2Ship delivers to and from every European country, including all EU member states, Norway, Switzerland, Serbia, and other non-EU European countries. The full list with links to individual country pages is shown in the country grid on this page.
Yes. Cross-trade movements — for example, collecting from Germany and delivering to Spain without the goods passing through the UK — can be arranged. Contact our team for cross-trade requirements.
Missing or incorrect EORI numbers, wrong commodity codes, incomplete Commercial Invoices, non-ISPM-15-compliant wood packaging, under-declared dimensions or weight, and restricted access at collection or delivery.
Our UK-based operations team is available Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:30, by phone, email, or live chat — before and after booking.
